Day 1:

My mom and I were there during the last week of november

The weather was just perfect – rather cool and light jackets were needed. However, on our last day of trip (30/11), the weather turned warmer. Well, it wasn’t really a surprise as Melbourne weather can be that unpredictable.

On our first day, we arrived in Melbourne at night. We grabbed a Skybus (operates 24/7) https://www.skybus.com.au/timetables/

After the late check-in (Travelodge Docklands), we rested for a whole night. The next morning, we walked to the nearest tram stop and took a ride on Tram 35 (City Circle Tram – FREE) Check here for route map: https://ptv.vic.gov.au/assets/PDFs/Maps/Network-maps/City-Circle-map.pdf

Optus

Day 2:

Our first stop was to Chinatown for lunch. We actually got off the tram at Flinders Street Station and walked there – not very far. Along the way, I bought a local Sim card.

Basically, on this day, we were only wandering around the CBD area, such as St. Paul’s Cathedral, Federation Square and around Flinders Street. We spent much time along the different streets and shops.

p.s. Free Wifi is not very common in Melbourne. Even our hotel room wasn’t offering free wifi during our stay. That’s the main reason I got a local sim card. However, if you*if you’re not planning to get the sim card, Federation Square does offer Free Wifi*

Day 3:

In the morning, we went to Queen Victoria Market. Again, we took the City Circle Tram 35 and got off at Flagstaff Station. It was within walking distance from Flagstaff Station. Along the way, we passed by Flagstaff Garden, which I thought, is a good place for leisure and picnic. Queen Victoria Market holds a wide range of products – from fresh produce to clothes to souvenirs. Very impressive. There, in their deli hall, try out their Boreks. You can’t miss it as you’ll find a long queue in front of the stall. Later on that day, we went to St. Kilda. Check out Route 96: https://ptv.vic.gov.au/assets/Maps/Routes/PDFs/1041_Tram96.pdf

It’s a beach place. Even if we were not interested in the beach, we still find the place interesting as there’re many eateries and fun shops to explore.

Day 4:

This day, we joined a local tour to Great Ocean Road. Day earlier, we signed up for a tour package in Extragreen Holidays (in Swanston Street). We opted for Extragreen among all other companies because: 1. it’s cheaper 2. Chinese tours available (my mom couldn’t understand English)

My verdict: A bit rush, if you were to take only ONE DAY TOUR to Great Ocean Road. If you have no problem driving in a foreign country, you can consider hiring a car and stay a night/ two in the small towns along the road.

1。Brighton Beach

2。Puffing Billy:

Day 5:

We took another day tour package to Brighton Beach, Dandenong Ranges and Puffing Billy with Extragreen Holidays.

All places above are actually very accessible by public transport. However, I didn’t want my mom to be in a rush for changes of route, so we signed up for the tour package. As you know, Brighton Beach is almost like a *must-go*, Puffing Billy is a unique experience. As for Dandenong, we didn’t have much memory there XD.

Tips: If you were to take a ride on Puffing Billy, sit on the right side going up and the left side coming back. The views are a heap better on these sides.

Day 6:

After an awesome brunch in Pho Bo Ga Mekong Vietnam, we decided that we would have a “cathedral and church hopping day”, so we walked to many different churches and cathedrals in the city.

Day 7:

Before our departure back to KUL, we again returned to QVM to hunt for souvenirs and found a place in the city to sit down, enjoy a cuppa drink and sent off all the postcards. Before the day ended, we returned to St Kilda (for some unknown reasons, but yeah, that’s a good place).

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

So that’s basically what we did. However, you should understand that the itinerary was planned according to my mom’s preference. Of course, in Melbourne you can still opt for a tour to see the penguins and a visit to the wildlife centre. Believe it or not, throughout our entire trip, we hadn’t seen a real kangaroo and koala! Haha, but I believe, that’s the essence of a holiday – Do what that pleases you most. And of course, we are also too lazy to even go to their zoo. Our trip was very much leisure and at own pace. Hence, it’s for your little reference and I hope it does help a little.
